Oh lady of little faith

Placed an order with a cosmetic ingredient supplier for some fragrance oils last night. This a.m. I get an email from the seller saying they couldn’t process the order coz my credit card number wasn’t recognized. It was a while before I even noticed the email so I was a bit perturbed because I assumed the order already went through and was in processing. I logged in to my account to see if everything was in order. I swear I paid on time, and there’s barely a balance. There was no reason for the card not to go through unless they shut me down for no reason without notifying me. Everything was fine. So I call the seller and tell her it might have been a typo (and computer glitches do happen). She said something like – “yeah right”. Huh?? I gave the lady my card info and the transaction went through in an instant. Oh lady of little faith – you don’t even know me, can’t see me and you automatically assume my credit’s no good?? SMH.

Pondering the apartment search

I am pondering the idea of getting a pad “in the city” – you know “the city” – the big apple if you will. It’s one of those things every writer and writer wannabe realizes s/he must do sooner or later At at least for a while. A writer should be able to get her coffee and muffin/bagel at her fave little spot across the street or down the block. A writer shouldn’t have to get in her car and drive for miles and miles to whole foods to find out that they’re out of smoked fish salad. In fact a writer shouldn’t have to drive so much period. Plus the idea of easy access to concerts, galleries, loft sales, poetry readings and such make it seem like an idea whose time has come. I was born in the city and came of age in the city, a different city from the big apple that is, maybe its time I spent more time in metropolis again. The only sticking point is going from a part of the world where 2 full baths are standard to a world where the ads (at least on craigslist) are cagey on the issue on whether the property offered has a bath at all :) . Ok just joking but they seem like one bath is the norm and for me that’s not really something I see working. Down here bathrooms in the plural are a given – high speed internet access, energy source (gas, electric, other??), and trash pickup (don’t take this for granted folks – you have to live in a locality that offers it and not every locality does) are the types of things we worry about. The idea of letting people have free run of  my sacred home spa space on a regular basis is hard for me but I can cope with a compromise on a half bath. I don’t know how crazy this notion of mine is but all I can do is keep investigating using a website that isn’t craiglist since it is not a database with search features and therefore can’t tell me whether there is such a thing as a 2 bed/1.5-2 bath apartment in the Bk.

Pig is pig

“There is nothing bacon does not improve. Bacon is the new black,” says Farr, whose charcuterie company produces 4505 Chicharrones, the pork snacks favored by several San Francisco bars and restaurants. “I have five vegan friends who close their eyes when they eat them and pretend they are potato chips,” Farr says. “Bacon is the gateway meat.”

Posted only because comments like this get my my nerves. If they’re eating pork snacks they’re not bloody well vegan are they? Yes I really am vegetarian. No it’s not a fashion statement. Yes I like eating this way. I don’t go to health food stores just to impress and then eat low end meat by-products when no one is looking. I don’t eat pig – ever. Pig is pig whether your eyes are open or closed. I don’t eat meat. I don’t miss meat. Believe it or not it’s like that for some of us. Meat is not default sustenance for human beings. And by the way it sounds like this guy has bacon mixed up with onions and curry powder.

Symbolism – fire

Sitting here reading about structuralist criticism which is tedious. Some of the pertinent information is about semiotics which is analysis of sign symbols. The talk about symbolism made me think about dreams and how our psyches use symbols for unclear purposes. Are dreams simply mind data purges? Or do they carry messages to us from the deep reaches of our subconscious? For example last night I dreamed about fire. So I wondered what that meant. A quickie google search pulled up a bunch of websites that say pretty much the same thing as this one:

http://predictions.astrology.com/dd/fire.html

Fire

Burning is a tremendous fear many people from many different cultures hold in common. However, it is often simultaneously associated with purification. To pass through fire intact is to see oneself as becoming purified. However, being burned may indicate that one perceives life as extraordinarily threatening and painful. If a particular object is on fire (house, car, etc.), this may symbolize over-commitment to it or fear of a world without it.

Freud found fire to be a symbol of male power. In this case, fire may indicate control over a circumstance or a struggle to feel that way, depending on whether the fire is controlled or not.

Do you question your own morality at times? Are you seeking cleansing from a bad experience?

Do you perceive your own life is about to go through a significant transition that requires spiritual preparation?

I’m not a man so the Freud bit doesn’t apply.

And here’s what Jung had to say about fire dreams:

Psychologist and Dream Interpreter Carl Jung said that the fire is a symbol of psychological transformation.  In the olden days alchemists used fire to turn base metals into gold.  Fire therefore can come to symbolize the trigger for inner transformation.

Interestingly enough these were my thoughts before I did my two minutes of research. I will say that my dreams seem to be pretty much cut and dry so if there are more complex explanations I haven’t found them yet.

(Now back to work … :) ).

Random thoughts

It’s hot (and that’s fine by me).

I’m on a diet – I mean dietary regimen for weight loss.

I’m drinking lots of water.

A certain celeb who just turned blonde doesn’t look good imo (but I guess that puts me in a minority).

I seldom turn on my computer before breakfast (another minority position).

Last night I was browsing shahji.com – I think I’m due for a treat (self treat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBt4X65QrLA ).

I’m out of dish cloths and laundry detergent. (sheesh!)

I’m not looking forward to discussing feminist theory.

I have this pita post person who won’t just leave packages on the porch.

Feathers and lies

People lie. And the worst is when they lie with an agenda to cause mischief or destroy. Example 1. I was looking at a black gossip blog the other day which went so far to post alleged tweet transcripts arguments between two celebs about some b.s. thing. And it was an easy thing to buy into … except for the fact that you could easily go to the tweet pages of either of these people and not find the tweets referred to. Example 2. Then looking at a well known AA discussion forum I saw a lengthy thread which started one lie and then people came in and started embellishing it with more lies and adding on to that with more fiction. I googled the alleged news transcript and it said something completely different than the made up issue that people were having fun with. Read the rest of this entry »

Change in blog name coming

I’m thinking I don’t like the name of this blog because it makes the scope of where I want to go with this too narrow. So I’m presently thinking on names and when I come up with something I will move everything over. The good news is this blog has only existed for a few days and also I haven’t told anyone it exists and have done zip by way of promotion (i.e. adding it to directories, etc.,) so forwarding people will be a non-issue.

Excuse me – Do you Know Mr. Joe?

I’ve been avoiding most comments under Michael Jackson stories since he died because I haven’t been in the mood for any b.s., hater fiction, or negativity. Troweling around in youtube however to look at fan videos, it seems like at least 95% of the comments are positive (after all who takes the time and internet juice to watch fan videos just to make nasty comments??). But what’s bugging me are fans who think that hating on Michael’s father is just another part of being in the movement. Like – excuse me – do you know the man?? Read the rest of this entry »
